Ethical data use and responsible innovation underpin all UCSD’s work.

As data, digital systems and emerging technologies increasingly shape development practice, UCSD applies a human‑centred, GESI‑informed approach to ensure that innovation strengthens accountability, inclusion and impact—while safeguarding against harm, bias and exclusion.

Why this matters

Data and emerging technologies—including AI—are reshaping development practice, but they also carry risks related to bias, exclusion and accountability.

How this shows up in our work

Across all our offerings, we:
• Promote ethical and inclusive use of data and digital tools
• Strengthen data literacy and learning systems
• Guard against exclusion, bias and harm
• Ensure technology supports human judgement, not replaces it

We have developed a leadership programme that enhances leadership capacities in organisations. This intervention covers a wide range of areas including accountability, people management, sustainability, relationship building, resource mobilisation, partnership building, programme design and importantly, leading in times of change.
